Project 116 vs. Kuroda Seitaro
Project 116 is a Citizen Schools apprenticeship at Isaac Newton Middle School in East Harlem taught by our very own Bryan along with Shien-ru of From Scratch that will teach how to design, produce, market and sell an original line of products. The apprentices will be designing their own line of eco-themed totebags that will be fashionable and original. To help the students turn inspiration into a drawing, they took the students on a special field trip to draw along side famed Japanese artist Kuroda Seitaro. Check out out the pictures from that special day.The creations will also be on display at Kuroda Seitaro’s upcoming Mad Flower Show November 12th here at hpgrp gallery New York. |

Hiroshi Sugimoto Exhibition
Sugimoto is known for creating series of black and white photographs. His work questions the relationship of photography and time while exploring the mysterious and ineffable nature of reality.
Naming things has something to do with human awareness, with the separation of the entire world from you. So with the Seascapes, I was thinking about the most ancient of human impressions. The time when man first named the world around him…

WASARA
Wasara Paperware was created to minimize the environmental burden of our time. Made from reed pulp and bagasse (sugarcane waste), these pieces are eco-friendly and return to the earth onced used.
"Underlying the concept of WASARA is the legacy of the Japanese aesthetic and value sense. Japan has a tradition of good manufacturing backed by excellent skills and techniques, one of the most refined food cultures in the world, and a spirit of hospitality and courtesy. These are essential for days of spiritual fulfillment."
